A $10,000 grant for rural Texas women’s leadership has been awarded to One Soul Yoga & Wellness Centre in Sulphur Springs through the Texas Rural Women Grant programme sponsored by the Centre for Women Entrepreneurs (CWE) of The Jane Nelson Institute for Women’s Leadership at Texas Woman’s University.
This was the first grant granted statewide, and it went to 35 women-owned businesses in particular Texas rural areas. The programme encourages fresh and creative ideas from rural, woman-owned small companies in Texas, which helps the state’s rural areas experience economic growth.
DeAnna McDearmont, co-owner and instructor at One Soul Yoga and a graduate of TWU, submitted the grant application in order to assist with some studio renovations. A small half-bathroom, an increase in the size of the outdoor yoga platform, and more parking will be provided with the money. On July 17, these projects are expected to start at the studio.
One Soul Yoga, a local yoga studio and wellness centre, was founded by women in 2019. The studio wants to offer a welcoming, non-competitive environment where people can practise yoga. One Soul provides a variety of classes that promote mindfulness and physical wellness for students of all ability levels. At One Soul, a lot of the classes are trauma-informed, which tries to provide a safe setting for people who have undergone trauma or are in the process of doing so. DeAnna McDearmont, Leah Connor, Rachel Finney, and Allison Martin run One Soul.
Additionally, One Soul frequently provides Yoga Alliance certified yoga teacher training as well as pop-up classes, workshops, special events, and retreats just for women. The only programme of its kind in the region is the on-site yoga teacher training. Services including sound healing, massages, reiki, and life counselling are available in our wellness centre.
