When creating an outfit with the goal of winning best dressed at the races, most individuals don’t think to look in a charity shop. Katie Moran won the Sustainable Style Ladies Competition at the Kilbeggan Races in Co Westmeath on Friday, July 12, wearing a stunning black midi dress she discovered there.
Katie purchased the Ralph Lauren outfit from Oxfam’s online shop in October and was chosen by the judges for her ‘dedication to both elegance and sustainability’.
It wasn’t just the second-hand dress that won her the title at the Kilbeggan Races; her entire wardrobe demonstrated her commitment to sustainable fashion. She equipped the dress with accessories including a handcrafted belt that tightened her waist and featured a stunning bow accent on the back.
Her other accessories complemented the set, including a hat by Karen Edell Millinery in Tullamore, black polka-dotted tulle gloves, a black-and-white bag, and elegant pointed shoes. The judges applauded Katie for her ‘impeccable fashion sense’, noting her look’s refined elegance, clever composition, and ultimate sustainability.
Style judge Sarah Jane Foster stated, “I am thrilled to recognize Katie Moran as the Best Dressed Lady at Kilbeggan Races.”
‘Her dress not only demonstrated her amazing fashion sense, but it also emphasized the necessity of sustainable style,’ Sarah Jane said. ‘Katie’s dedication to creating an attractive style with pre-loved and handmade goods is extremely inspirational.
It happens that several good dresses are found in charity shops, provided the buyers need to have an eye for best dresses.
