Women’s Entrepreneurship Conference in Cobourg Aims to Empower and Inspire Business Leaders

The Business and Entrepreneurship Centre Northumberland, in partnership with Regional Tourism Organization 8 (RTO8) and Northumberland County, is inviting female entrepreneurs to the “She Owns It” conference to empower, inspire, and equip local businesswomen for success. The conference will be held Thursday, November 7, at the Best Western Plus Cobourg Inn & Convention Centre.

The conference has grown its repertoire and capacity to deliver an even better experience after a very successful first event last year. Business development coordinator at BECN Kailyn Coupland said she was overwhelmed by the response to the teaser campaign on social media. “We are super excited to join hands with RTO8 again to present this much-awaited event, which sold out last year,” she said.

A half-day conference, this event will serve as a motivational and bonding tool for the female entrepreneurs in your community. Featuring insightful presentations by featured speakers including Julie Cole of Mabel’s Labels, co-founder and senior director, Becky Wright and Kelsey MacDermaid of The Sorry Girls, and media host, producer and writer Pay Chen, listen to their personal stories and lessons learned as successful leaders.

“We’re very thrilled to have Mel Hannah from Peterborough Pure Country 105 as our emcee,” Coupland commented. Industry leaders and exciting surprises characterize this year’s exceptional lineup. Free digital professional headshots will be provided by Laura Benn of Gooseberry Studios, an added layer to the networking experience.

The agenda features three key presentations. Julie Cole will keynote the event with her story of taking Mabel’s Labels from a basement to a multi-million-dollar business. Cole is an award-winning entrepreneur, best-selling author, and has been featured on both NBC’s *Today Show* and CNN among other national programs.

Continuing in this vein, Becky Wright and Kelsey MacDermaid will share their own experiences with The Sorry Girls, another hugely successful digital media brand devoted to DIY, sustainability, and female empowerment. With over 2.2 million subscribers on YouTube and numerous media appearances, the advice they have on navigating obstacles and succeeding is exceptionally beneficial.

The conference will conclude with the conduct of a professional development session by Pay Chen, in which he will take the participants through how media and influencer marketing can be used to advance the brand further. With a service span of over 20 years in broadcasting, the speaker for the session has indeed broadened his body of knowledge for discussion.

The BECN anticipates that by the end of the conference, participants will have actionable insights and renewed inspiration for their entrepreneurial practices, widened networks for support and strengthened collaborative relationships. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for women within the community to connect, share, and celebrate their achievements.
