Background
Latin America has advanced significantly in gender equality, yet gaps persist in leadership roles, particularly within technical and industrial fields. According to the World Economic Forum, in 2024 women held 36.4% of senior leadership roles in the region, showing the need for stronger action to promote equitable representation.
In this context, Rockwell Automation has appointed Luisa Gómez as Regional Director for Andean and Caribbean markets. She is the first woman in Latin America to have been appointed to this leadership position in the firm. The appointment highlights both her career path and the broader changes in the technology industry.
Gomez is an electronics engineer of Universidad Autonoma de Occidente in Colombia with 15 years of experience in commercial and strategic management. In 2010, she joined Rockwell Automation as the head of the heavy industry team in Mexico. Her appointment as the first female in this position is a huge step towards a more inclusive industry. I will ensure more women get a chance to be technology leaders, she said.
Her priorities are to increase diversity programs, mentorship programs, and policies that provide safe environments to facilitate professional development. Diversity, she added, is not only a value, but a prerequisite to innovation.
Gomez will be the Regional Director in charge of strategies in relevant industries, including mining, oil and gas, food and beverage, and manufacturing. She added that a number of companies continue struggling with obstacles to implementing new technologies, and Rockwell Automation hopes to serve as a partner aiding their digital integration.
The concept of sustainability will also become a priority, and projects will focus on energy efficiency, emissions minimization, and smarter utilization of resources. The company believes that it can achieve responsible growth and productivity through digital capabilities such as predictive maintenance and process control.
Gómez emphasized that digital transformation must also be cultural. “Technology shows its full value when combined with human talent and long-term vision,” she concluded.
