Barbra Streisand Receives the Justice Award Award for Women in Leadership: Ruth Bader Ginsburg

The prize was given out by Julie Opperman, Chair of the Dwight D. Opperman Foundation, and The Honorable Justice Sonia Sotomayor. The Dwight D. Opperman Foundation board, the Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Leadership Award Nominating Committee, and Voting Council members selected Streisand as the 2023 recipient earlier this year.

Justice Ginsburg launched her legacy award alongside Opperman in 2019 in recognition of the influence she had on the world and in an effort to motivate future leaders. The Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Woman of Leadership Award is given each year to individuals who have excelled as leaders and made a significant difference in the lives of others.

Streisand has established a legendary career and won almost every significant award in acknowledgment of her work. She redefined what it means to be a successful woman in the entertainment industry and changed Hollywood’s concept of what femininity is. She is still the first female composer to win an Academy Award and the first woman to ever direct, produce, write, and star in a major motion picture.

In addition to being a popular musician, Streisand is a committed philanthropist. She also founded the Barbra Streisand Women’s Heart Center at Cedars-Sinai, contributed to early studies on climate change, and is still an active supporter of voting rights, gender equality, and racial justice.

The Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Woman of Leadership Award is poised to become the most significant acknowledgement of women in leadership globally thanks to the dedication and enthusiasm of Opperman, David Rubenstein, and the award committee.
