Female-led Business Training Firm Expands to New Premises in Lancaster

A Lancaster-based Growing Club CIC, which aims to give business training and support to local women, opened its new premises at White Cross Business Park yesterday at The Barracks. Key stakeholders came together for the launch with Charlotte Ellwood from the Lancaster and Morecambe Chamber of Commerce, representatives from local businesses, and from Lancaster City Council, all present with the women that Growing Club helps.

Since its launch in 2016, The Growing Club has been focused on offering entrepreneurship and employability skills to females in the Lancaster district. That educational and training input is arranged through a range of core courses, workshops, and drop-in sessions. Development of the services is being assisted by Shared Prosperity Fund funding from UK Government and through the National Lottery Reaching Communities. Recently, the organization has spread its services into other areas of North Lancashire and Cumbria.

The new building is much larger and will provide the opportunity for delivering better training sessions while providing additional opportunities to the women participating in the program. The features of the Women and Enterprise Hub will be hot-desking, meeting areas, and informal gathering spaces that will facilitate networking between women in the community. The space also provides the potential to allow several events and activities to be held at The Growing Club, such as fundraisers in support of its ongoing mission.

Lorraine Birch is chair of the Voluntary Directors at The Growing Club, and she warmly welcomed the new location, insisting, “We are delighted that The Growing Club has spread its wings and moved into new offices. This means that our commitment to providing a space in which every woman is enabled to thrive remains unwavering. If anything, this move will supercharge our ability to serve the women we support even better.”.

Looking forward, The Growing Club has an amazing roster of activities for the autumn months. These will include the continuation of core courses, workshops, a biweekly drop-in on every Tuesday, a Wellbeing Day for Women in Business, and a fashion show. This is part of expanded programming reflecting the organization’s commitment to enabling women through better trainings and community engagement.

Indeed, the new premises mark a great milestone as The Growing Club moves forward to celebrate further the development and eventual success of women entrepreneurs in the region.
