HSBC Appoints Lisa McGeough as President and CEO for the United States

Lisa McGeough has been named President and CEO for HSBC in the United States, effective January 1, 2025, marking the first female CEO in the region in over a decade and only the second in HSBC’s 150-year history.

McGeough will oversee all of HSBC’s U.S. operations, including the expansion of Corporate and Institutional Banking in North America, and will be based in New York City.

HSBC has appointed Lisa McGeough as President and Chief Executive Officer for the United States, effective January 1, 2025. McGeough’s appointment marks a significant milestone as the first female CEO in the region in over a decade and only the second woman in the 150-year history of HSBC to hold this role.

Based in New York City, McGeough will lead HSBC’s operations in the U.S., overseeing all regional businesses and steering the growth of the newly integrated wholesale business, Corporate and Institutional Banking, in North America. In addition, she will serve as Director of the HSBC North America Management Board and Chair of the HSBC Bank USA Management Board.

McGeough, who joined HSBC in 2021, brings over 35 years of banking experience to the role. She most recently served as Co-Head of Global Banking Coverage, overseeing Global Banking Europe. Prior to HSBC, she had a distinguished 15-year career at Wells Fargo, where she held various leadership roles, including Executive Vice President and Head of International, as well as Co-Head of Corporate & Investment Banking.
