Microsoft has announced the appointment of Amy Coleman as its new Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer, succeeding Kathleen Hogan, who has held the role for a decade. Coleman, a Microsoft veteran with over 25 years of experience, will join the company’s executive leadership team and report directly to CEO Satya Nadella.
Hogan, who joined Microsoft in 2003, will continue to serve as an Executive Vice President but will transition to the newly created Office of Strategy and Transformation, an extension of the CEO’s office. While Hogan will remain on the senior leadership team, Coleman will take on the significant responsibility of overseeing HR for one of the largest employers in the U.S., with 228,000 employees as of June 2024.
Coleman’s extensive experience includes her leadership of Microsoft’s HR functions for corporate areas over the past six years. She has worked across various departments including engineering, sales, marketing, and business development. Nadella praised her for her trusted advisory role and contributions to shaping Microsoft’s culture, improving employee engagement, and leading crisis responses.
Hogan’s tenure at Microsoft was marked by significant changes, such as the introduction of a growth mindset among employees and the transformation of performance review systems, Under Hogan’s leadership, the company also focused on culture change and enhancing the employee experience.
Coleman, who previously served as Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President for Human Resources and Corporate Functions, led efforts in developing the company’s hybrid work model and managing HR responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.
