Key Background:

OhioHealth has appointed Jean Halpin as the new president of Grant Medical Center, a role she assumes as the hospital embarks on a significant $400 million expansion project in downtown Columbus. Halpin, who has been with the health system for 33 years, most recently served as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Grant, a position she held for the past three years. In addition, Halpin has extensive experience within OhioHealth, having previously led OhioHealth Mansfield and Shelby hospitals following their acquisition in 2014.

The announcement comes at a pivotal moment for Grant Medical Center, as it enters a period of substantial growth and development. As president, Halpin will oversee the completion of a transformative hospital expansion, which includes the construction of a state-of-the-art, six-story critical care tower and an expanded trauma and emergency department. The first phase of the project, which involves the construction of a new parking garage and medical offices, is already underway, with the entire expansion expected to be completed by mid-2028.

Halpin’s appointment follows the departure of Michael Lawson, who recently took on the role of Houston market president at St. Luke’s Health. Halpin officially stepped into her new position on December 30, 2024, and will continue to serve as OhioHealth’s Vice President of Customer Experience until the completion of the transition plan for that role.

In addition to her leadership at Grant, Halpin has played a key role in OhioHealth’s systemwide initiatives, particularly in the development of outpatient campuses. Her deep experience and leadership within the organization make her well-positioned to guide Grant Medical Center through this critical phase of expansion and ensure the continued success of the hospital’s operations. Halpin’s leadership at Grant will also extend to overseeing the systemwide emergency medical services. She continues to serve on the board for Columbus Public Health, further demonstrating her commitment to improving health outcomes in the region. The expansion of Grant Medical Center is expected to solidify its position as a vital healthcare provider in the downtown Columbus area and enhance its ability to meet the growing demand for advanced medical services in Central Ohio.
