Women’s Leadership Academy Launched by GCSAA

The Women’s Leadership Academy will officially launch on November 7–9 in Lawrence, Kansas, the location of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America’s (GCSAA) main office.

The event’s main goal is to give women working in the turfgrass sector the education, mentoring, and networking opportunities they need to reach their full potential, shape their future, and take on inspiring leadership roles on both small and large sizes. In order to maximise their effect as leaders, participants will be led through a road of discovery aimed at removing obstacles and developing their inner abilities.

Suzy Whaley, PGA Master Professional and the first female president of the PGA of America, will serve as the keynote speaker for the Women’s Leadership Academy. During a fireside discussion at the opening evening event, Whaley will discuss her experience in the golf industry and apply it to turfgrass experts while allowing participants to ask questions in a casual setting. Whaley has a unique understanding of the work of turfgrass professionals having worked side by side with many GCSAA members.

The two-and-a-half day conference is available to any women working in the turfgrass sector, not only GCSAA members. Participants will also offer a variety of experience, from those just starting their careers to seasoned veterans. The diversity in the group will support the expansion of the network of women throughout the turfgrass business, not only in golf.

“The Women’s Leadership Academy evolved from feedback from the 2022 GCSAA Women’s Task Group,” GCSAA CEO Rhett Evans said. “This event gives us the opportunity to inspire a small, yet growing, and passionate group in our industry to become impactful leaders. Their leadership will not only help those already in the turfgrass industry but attract more women to work in turf-related fields.” The Focus on effective communication, self-discovery, understanding others, and inspiring others.
